With South Africa doing rather better in the cricket, I thought I would post an iconic flower from that country. This is the Protea, though which one I am not sure, it might be Protea caffra.Protea

This photo was taken not in South Africa but in Wales about 10 days ago. It is growing in the National Botanic Gardens of Wales.

I have seen Proteas growing in their homeland some years ago when I visited that wonderful country. I spent a long time at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical gardens which has Table mountain right behind it.  All credit to the Welsh gardens, they are well worth a visit,  but Kirstenbosch wins by some way.

I think this was the last trip where I used a film camera, a pity really as I got some great wildlife photos, but not to worry I will be returning in just a few months.
